Was chatting with my supervising prof, and made a startling discovery that few realizes.
Do you know that the life of a prof is akin to no life? Profs are expected to work during the weekends, because that's the only time you have to do write your papers or do other research related stuff. Weekdays are filled with lessons, meetings, administrative work and other nonsense. Now I know why Prof C mentioned she works on weekends, and why all my profs reply emails at all sort of hours.
She also mentioned that for many profs (especially full fledged profs), they have been having 3-4 hours sleep every night for the past 20 years. Apparently, if a prof can get 7 hours of sleep at any night, that's already very good. And, profs in Singapore have it a bit better than their counterparts in US, because they can still afford 5-6 hours of sleep, whereas 4 hours are what most can afford in the States.
Depressing? She mentioned one sees it so often that you're no longer depressed by it, but just take it as a matter-of-fact.
